Portugal has been named the best tourist destination in Europe for the fifth time in six years, according to the Portuguese Ministry of Economy.

The ministry said, in a statement, that Portugal was crowned the “Best European Tourist Destination” in the European version of the World Travel Awards for the year 2022, which is the fifth time in the last six years.

This selection arises, according to the same source, as a result of the votes of thousands of professionals in this sector, from all over the world, and highlights that Portugal won another 30 awards this year, including the best destinations, regions, products and services. .

The award for the best adventure tourism destination in Europe returned to the Azores, and the award for the best beach destination in Europe to the Algarve region, and Lisbon won the award for the best relaxation destination and the first cruise destination in Europe , while the award for the first European city destination was Porto.

The ministry added that Portugal’s crowning in more than 30 categories in the European version of the World Travel Awards for 2022 is particularly important after the difficult years of the epidemic, expressing great pride at the recognition that companies, national units tourism and professionals have. received by their counterparts at the international level.
