The statement highlights that the Moroccan presidency of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union is part of the continuity of the Kingdom’s commitments for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Africa, and constitutes the culmination of the Kingdom’s diplomatic efforts to level of the African continent, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, in the interest of peace, security and stability in Africa.
The same source added that within the framework of an innovative approach aimed at outlining a new strategy for the African Organization in order to face the challenges related to peace and security, the Kingdom of Morocco aspires to find collective answers to many global and regional problems, highlighting that terrorism, child recruitment, climate change, food security, the situation in the Sahel and in the Central African Republic, will be topics on the agenda of several meetings at the level of ministers, ambassadors and experts .
The statement indicated that several important meetings will also be held under the presidency, especially those in which the United Nations Security Council participates, as well as the study of reports, including those related to the peace situation in Africa and the implementation of the main road map of the African Union to silence the voice weapons in Africa.
As part of its commitment and determination to serve the continental agenda in the field of peace and security, according to a comprehensive and multidimensional approach, Morocco will host, during its presidency of the African Union Peace and Security Council, a political symposium in Tangier, from 25 to 27 October 2022, on “Strengthening the link between peace and security and development, prospects for regional integration”, in collaboration with the Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the African Union.
The Moroccan presidency will also see the organization of two ministerial meetings dedicated to the themes “Development and the fight against extremism as levers to combat terrorism and violent extremism” and “Climate change, peace and security: improving resilience and adaptation for food security in African island states”. .”
Since its return to the African Union in January 2017, the Kingdom of Morocco has held a seat on the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, as a member for a period of two years (2018-2020).
During this first term, which was marked by its presidency of this decision-making body in September 2019, Morocco contributed constructively to improving the working methods of the African Union Peace and Security Council and promoting best practices in the work of the Union.
