The same source suggested the possibility of raising the file to reopen the occupied Melilla customs, closed since 2018, by Morocco, and the creation of a similar office in the occupied Ceuta pass. This is the file that, according to the agency, is included in the Spanish version only of the Moroccan-Spanish agreement of April 7 in Rabat, but the same “diplomatic sources” specify that “the talks on this file are at a somewhat advanced stage ”, although they did not want to give more details about how the agreement will be implemented.
This meeting will be the third between the two after the normalization of relations between the two countries, after the trip of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, to Rabat on April 7, and his meeting with King Mohamed VI, where the bases prepared for the new phase of the bidirectional relationship.
Alparis and Bourita met twice in early May in Marrakech, where the Spanish minister attended the meeting of the coalition of countries against the Islamic State, and then both announced the reopening of the borders in Ceuta and Melilla, which took place, albeit partially, on May 17.
In the same context, Enrique Alcoba, president of the Federation of Entrepreneurs of occupied Melilla, indicated this Tuesday, after his meeting with Juan Francisco Martínez, general director of Spanish Trade Policy, together with his counterpart from occupied Ceuta, Arantexa Campos, the possibility of lifting the customs file in the talks The duality between Bourita and Alparis.
Alcoba and Campos had made three presentations to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, showing the extent of the damage caused to the two cities as a result of the continuous closure of commercial customs with Morocco.
Regarding the results of the meeting, Alcoba indicated that “the opening date of commercial customs is still unknown”, and that the ministry limited itself to saying that “negotiations continue” with Morocco in this regard, expressing “discontent” for the delay. in this file, saying, “I don’t know.” That they have to negotiate, the facilities are ready and everything is ready.
