The Moroccan embassy in Mexico established a communication cell to monitor the situation of the Moroccan community, in the context of the violent earthquake that devastated the west of the Mexican capital on Monday.

In the diplomatic representation of Morocco in Mexico it was learned that none of the Moroccan citizens residing in the city was injured or killed.

The Kingdom’s embassy confirmed that it is closely following events in the affected areas and is mobilizing to help members of the Moroccan community in coordination with the Mexican authorities.

The embassy indicated that Moroccan citizens residing in Mexico can communicate with the communication cell phone through the following numbers: 0052. or 0052.55.6470.2448.

The strength of the earthquake, according to the National Seismological Service of Mexico, was 7.7 on the Richter scale, leaving only one person dead, according to official data.

The authorities also indicated that there was damage to two hospitals near the epicenter, which coincides with the memory of two devastating earthquakes in Mexico in 1985 and 2017, which caused thousands of deaths and significant material losses.

He added that the earthquake damaged buildings, caused power outages and caused the population of the capital, Mexico, which totals more than 21.2 million people, to take to the streets to save themselves.
