The meeting of the Central Committee of the Party of Progress and Socialism was not without discussions about the continuation of Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah as general secretary of the party for a fourth term.
According to a prominent source from the Party of Progress and Socialism who spoke to Hespress, most of the interventions by Central Committee members supported renewing confidence in Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah; There is no unanimous alternative within the party.
On the other hand, the Hespress source revealed that Abdel Salam Seddiqi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Party of Progress and Socialism and former Minister of Employment, again opposed the candidacy of Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah to lead the party.
The same source pointed out that some of those present at the meeting understood from Abd al-Salam al-Siddiqi’s intervention the latter’s desire to run to compete with Muhammad Nabil Benabdallah; However, he did not explicitly announce it.
Said Fakkak, a member of the political bureau of the party, also opposed the current general secretary of the “Kitab” party continuing to lead this political body.
A Hespress source indicated that Said El Fakak’s candidacy is confirmed; But he ruled out the possibility of winning.
He added: “Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah is in control of the party organization, and it is difficult to compete with him, especially since most of the influential leaders within the party remain.”
Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah, general secretary of the Party of Progress and Socialism, had expressed his reluctance to run again for the post of general secretary.
In exchange, the organizational decision related to the conduct of the work of the eleventh national conference gave the two congresses the possibility of presenting a candidacy to the General Secretariat; Which will increase the shame of Benabdallah.
The organizational decision, which Hespress reviewed, established that “at least 10 percent of the total number of deputies and delegates of the National Congress, belonging to at least half of the administrative authorities, can, through a list containing their names , identity card”. numbers, regional branches and signatures, be delivered to the Preparatory Commission or to the Presidency of the National Congress, so that it can present its application to the General Secretariat.
According to the same decision, a delegate to the National Conference cannot sign more than one list.
The data obtained by Hespress indicated that the current political bureau of the Progress and Socialism Party has the power to delegate a participation that does not exceed 10 percent of the total number of congresses.
The decision also set a series of conditions that candidates for the party’s general secretary must meet. Including the need to have at least ten years of membership, with serving at least two terms of membership on the Political Bureau, and obtain the recommendation of the conference with the approval of at least 10 percent of the total delegates and delegates of the National Congress, belonging to at least half of the administration bodies, by means of a list that includes their names, identity card numbers, regional headquarters and signatures, to be delivered to the Preparatory Commission or to the Presidency of the Conference; Provided that no delegate to the conference signs more than one recommendation.
