The pre-opening ceremony of the “Kahal” synagogue and “Mikvi Hammam al-Yahud” took place in the city of Asilah, on Tuesday, in the presence of members of the Israeli community in Tangier and the Jewish community in Asilah.

The “Kahal” synagogue, which was founded in 1824, is located in the old city of Asilah; Specifically, in Al-Tijaria street, known as “Al-Kharazin”, which is considered one of the most famous neighborhoods in the city.

This synagogue was the object of rehabilitation and recovery works that lasted 8 months, at the initiative of the Israeli community of Tangier, and with the support of the mandate of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region.

In a speech on this occasion, Aaron Abekzer, vice president of the Israeli Community in Tangier, confirmed that these buildings, which were completely in ruins, have been rehabilitated as part of a project that aims to preserve the Jewish heritage of the north in general. . , and authentic in particular, in order to pass them on to future generations, highlighting Caring surrounded by King Mohammed VI the Jewish community.

For her part, Sonia Cohen Azakuri, in charge of the preservation of Jewish heritage in Tangier, stated that the rehabilitation work on these buildings took eight months and pointed out that this project was carried out and financed by the Israeli community of Tangier, with the support of the province of the region.

The same spokeswoman added that this project is of great importance for the north in general, and the city of Asilah in particular, pointing out that this initiative aims to preserve the Jewish cultural heritage.

On the sidelines of this ceremony organized by the Moroccan Jewish Cultural Heritage Foundation, the Israeli community in Tangier and the Council of Israeli Communities in Morocco, a visit was made to the Farran Lihud Bath, established in 1866.
