A study prepared by the Naif Arab University of Security Sciences on the policies to face the security challenges of the “Tik Tok” application highlighted the importance of government agencies and institutions in Arab countries adopting “regulatory measures” policies. regarding the control and regulation of the working mechanisms of social network applications.

The university, which is the scientific body of the Council of Arab Ministers of the Interior, stated that it had launched a scientific study on the app, following controversy and criticism over the security challenges associated with its use, and the increasing use by terrorist and extremist groups, in addition to its use to publish immoral material; This led some countries to take strict measures to deal with their risks, and others resorted to embargo policies to deal with security challenges and social risks.

The security policy analysis document produced by the University Security Research Center added that the application has spread rapidly around the world, as it has spread in more than 150 countries and currently supports more than 75 languages, while the number of its users is approximately one billion active. monthly users, and there are 167 million visits. In the Middle East, figures indicate that as of early 2022 AD, there are about 22.37 million users of the app in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, about 20.28 million users in Egypt, and about 6.72 million of users in the Emirates, while the number of its users in Morocco is 5.97 million users.

The newspaper stated that Arab countries have so far treated the app with caution, and no country has leveled accusations at the company that owns the app, and everything that was distributed at official levels is just warnings related to non-standard use of the app. application, and most of them are related to videos that are immoral, or that affect the values ​​of Arab societies, indicating that some Arab security institutions dealt with some celebrities with accusations related to the promotion of offensive content, and all of the criticism . it revolved around the ethics, goals and safety, social and cultural effects of the platform.

He stated that there are many global security challenges for the app, including the accusation of excessively collecting and extracting user data and subjecting it to extensive analysis processes, including the unnecessary copying of data from phones and the collection of information that can be used. to locate and track the user, as the application was exposed to claims of hosting morally harmful content, and illegally and fairly exploiting user content and works protected by copyright, with no financial return for creators and owners of intellectual property rights, as well as the commission of crimes of deception and electronic fraud, in addition to the fact that some individuals use the application to intimidate and harass others or practice forms of violence and extortion, and its use as a means to spread rumours, especially those that threaten national security, and some videos promote images of hate speech. and the spread of extremist and terrorist ideas.

In concluding the security policy document, the Naif Arab University recommended a series of scientific and practical recommendations that Arab countries can adopt to deal with the risks of the application, including the importance of coordinating with companies that own social media applications to develop the Arab Code of Practice on disinformation and extremist and immoral content circulating through these applications, including the “Tik Tok” application, provided that the blog aims to identify measures that can be taken to address the challenges security and promote hate speech and violence, and the The general objectives of the blog are clear, and aim to include strict policies that work to prevent these practices, or spread speech urging extremism and violence.

It also includes rules to improve auditing of ad placements to reduce revenue for creators of unethical and misleading content, and to implement and strengthen acceptable policies and regulations against these crimes, while urging relevant government institutions to adopt policies of regulatory measures that refer to general laws and regulations and self-regulatory frameworks, in relation to the control Organize the work of social network applications.
