The Government of Mauritania strongly condemned the statements attributed to the president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Ahmed Raissouni, in which he described the existence of the Republic of Mauritania as an “error”.
The Minister of Education, official spokesperson for the Mauritanian government, Maa El-Aynein Ould Aye, told a press conference on Wednesday night that “the statements are reprehensible and deplorable, condemned and rejected by their author, and by all those that touched his heart.”
Ould Abeh also considered, on the same date, that Raissouni’s statements “are not based on any source that gives them credibility, because they are against the historical and geographical evidence, and when he pronounced them, he repudiated all the veils of wisdom and credibility. ”
Ahmed Raissouni, head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, referred to Mauritania’s independence from Morocco, prompting widespread criticism in the “Chinguetti country”, where his words provoked angry reactions from parties and organizations.
In an interview with Blanca Press, Raissouni said that “the existence of Mauritania is wrong from the root, along with the conflict in the Sahara”, stressing that “Morocco should return to what it was before the European invasion of what Mauritania was a part of”, as he put it.
The head of the International Union of Muslim Academics added that “the oath of fidelity to the Mauritanian scholars and notables to the royal throne is firm”, and pointed out that “Mauritania is a colonial industry, but Morocco recognized it anyway, and we will leave the history”. to his word in the future”.
