French lawmakers approved, in preliminary reading, on Tuesday, a legal amendment that allows the use of cooking oils as an alternative to gasoline in the operation of certain types of cars. The amendment proposes to allow the use of used household oils as an alternative to gasoline cars, especially vintage cars. It also allows the use of sunflower oil and some types of oils that have been processed into a fuel substitute.
“The purpose of this amendment is to preserve the purchasing power of the French, reduce pollution from car engines and reduce the country’s energy bill,” said Julien Bayot, leader of the French Green Party.
It should be noted that French Airlines used 20 percent of cooking oils on one of its flights in May 2021, and airlines were required to use at least 1 percent of this biofuel.
